Alamo PC Needs Your Help!

If you want Alamo PC to be there for you tomorrow

You must get involved today!

Members often state a reluctance to volunteer because they think you have to be a Computer Expert, but nothing could be further from the truth! Alamo PC has Volunteer opportunities to fit every skill level, from beginners to experts.

As a non-profit, educational organization, Alamo PC Organization Inc.'s, success or failure is dependent on the dedication and volunteer work of its members.  Alamo PC's volunteers have helped the organization to achieve success as the second largest PC User Group in the United States. However, there is always more to do and new volunteers are always needed. If you can answer the phone, send faxes, make copies, take messages off of voice mail, or put on a friendly face at a trade show, you can make an important contribution to the continued success of Alamo PC.

No matter what your skill level, areas of interest or availability there are always opportunities to contribute. Here are some of the things you might want to help with, descriptions and contact information are listed below:
Telephone Help Numbers
Office Staff
Instructors and Assistants
General Meetings
Booth Staff for Trade Shows and Other Special Events
Board of Directors and Officer Positions
Other Services

Volunteer Telephone or E-mail Help Numbers:
Help numbers when you need them the most.

Members who have some familiarity with a particular software application, Operating System, or type of hardware, are encouraged to serve on the Volunteer Telephone or E-mail Help Committee. Most users requesting help have very basic questions. By volunteering, you not only help others, but you can learn from the experience and also get a good feeling doing it.

Take a look at the "Help Numbers" directory in the PC Alamode to see the subjects currently covered. If there is a subject that you are interested in that is not listed, we can add it. If you can help with a title currently showing only one volunteer, your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Committee members are listed in the monthly PC Alamode Magazine with either a phone number or e-mail address and specific days of the week and times of day that members may contact them for assistance. Instructors and Assistants:

Alamo PC offers Classes or Study Groups, as instructors and space becomes available. These classes may cover subjects such as Windows XP, Windows Vista, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, WordPerfect, the Internet, plus several others.

We are also looking for instructors to teach short term (one to three sessions) on specific topics such as, scanners, buying a new computer, trouble shooting computer problems, etc.

If you have expertise in a particular software application and enjoy teaching, this may be the opportunity for you.

If you have only a basic familiarity with a software application one good way to gain more knowledge is by volunteering as a teaching assistant.

If you would be interested in volunteering for any of these opportunities, please be sure to:

Persons willing to act as greeters, pass out tickets for door prizes and help with the occasional giveaway at the program's end are also welcome. This is a great opportunity for those who would like to help but have a limited amount of time to spare.

It's fun!  At these events Alamo PC meets the community at large and promotes itself to potential members. All you have to do is hand out Alamo PC literature and giveaways; and tell attendees about Alamo PC and membership benefits. Other Services:

As with any large organization there are always plans and projects we would like to be able to initiate. These projects would provide more services for our members as well as benefit the local community. Without administrative, clerical, or technical support from our members several of these projects have not been able to make it beyond the planning stages.

Some of the Special Projects Alamo PC would like to promote include:

  1. Community outreach and education / mentoring programs among Senior Citizen Groups, Youth Groups, and Special Needs Groups.

  2. Projects to attract young people into the organization.

  3. To put together a history of Alamo PC. We are looking for a historian who could interview some of the original members of the organization, look through the old magazines, and research some of the history of the organization. From this research, they could write a brief history of the organization. This could even be a group project.

  4. Provide additional educational opportunities for our members.

  5. To write grant applications
