Communications (Public Relations)

Susan Ives was raised in the Philadelphia suburbs, in spitting distance of where Washington crossed the Delaware. She has a degree in political science from Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, and studied journalism at the University of Maryland.

When she told her father that she had accepted an army commission, he blurted out in stunned disbelief, “Whose army?” Despite his reservations, she served in the 101st Airborne Division, the Military District of Washington, Army Recruiting Command and V Corps, in Frankfurt, Germany. She is a Gulf War veteran. She and her husband, John, a San Antonio native, moved to Texas in 1992.

Susan is a past president of Alamo PC (1997-1998) and has also been the Secretary and marketing/advertising director. She has been the Internet editor of PC Alamode magazine since 1996 and was made a member of the magazine’s advisory board soon after. She has written hundreds of articles for the magazine including three columns: Computer Crimes, the Lazy Webmaster and Net Nerds. She has won numerous international awards for her computer journalism.

Susan is also a Class Instructor. For many years she taught the “Jumpstart the Internet” classes and now teaches “Jumpstart your Homepage on the World-wide Web.”

She designed Alamo PC’s first Web page and was the groups Webmaster for about five years.

Susan works half-time at the peaceCENTER, an interfaith peacemaking group. She is an op-ed columnist for the San Antonio Express-News; her column appears on Sundays, in the Insight section.

She is an active member of the Conservation Society, plays the hammered dulcimer and accordion with reckless incompetence and reads obsessively.
