Following
service in the U.S. Army and, later, receipt of a degree in Commerce (Accounting
Major) from the State University of Iowa in 1957, Mark
joined the audit staff of Arthur Andersen & Co in Kansas City.
He subsequently accepted a position with Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Company
as a Policy and Procedures Analyst. In 1961, he was assigned
to a newly-formed Panhandle affiliate, National Helium Corporation, and
where he served as Controller and also had responsibility for the Purchasing,
Warehousing and Personnel functions. In 1967, he was assigned as
a Project Manager in the newly-formed Panhandle Corporate Planning Department
and was transferred to Houston.
After serving as Assistant to Panhandle’s President/CEO, he was appointed
as Vice-President and General Manager of Paragon Data Systems (a 100% owned
Panhandle affiliate) where he directed a 36-member group in designing,
developing, marketing , installing and servicing computer software and
high-performance remote terminals to provide hospitals with advanced remote
data-base systems run on Panhandle’s Univac 1110 computers during
off-peak hours. The company provided service to a number of
major hospitals across the U.S.
With the formation of Valero Energy Corporation, Mark was recruited
to join the new company to become the Vice-President of Corporate Planning.
This resulted in his moving to San Antonio in 1979.
After taking early retirement from Valero in 1989, he formed a food
and beverage distribution in a seventeen county area around San Antonio
which he later sold it to a larger company desiring access to the product
lines represented.
Since his initial retirement, he has served as Vice President/CFO-Finance
and Administration for Consumer Credit Counseling Service, and as Controller
of an international long distance tele-communications company and as a
consultant to Tesoro Petroleum Corporation.
Mark joined Alamo PC Organization in 1994.
