Larry
G. Grosskopf, Ph. D. is employed by the Texas Department of Mental
Health and Mental Retardation, and works as a Clinical Psychologist at
the San Antonio State Hospital. He has worked for the San Antonio State
Hospital for the past 10 years. Larry came to San Antonio in 1989
as a Clinical Psychology Resident at the Audie Murphy V.A. Hospital, completing
his Clinical Internship in 1990. In 1991, he accepted a year of Post-Doctorate
training in Geriatric Psychology and Neuropsychology at the San Antonio
State Hospital. He was hired as a full-time staff member upon completion
of his Post-Doctorate training.
Larry grew up in Pensacola, Florida and graduated from Pensacola High
School in 1970. He received his B. A. degree in Psychology and Religion
in 1975 from Ouachita Baptist
University. In 1980, he earned an M. A. in Counseling Psychology
from Spalding University
in Louisville, Kentucky. After working for several years, he returned
to graduate school in 1985 at the University
of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. He completed his requirements
for his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 1991.
During the early 1980’s, Larry became interested in computers and bought
his first Intel 8088 computer during the middle of the first year of his
Ph.D. program in 1985. Larry currently enjoys working and tinkering
with computers but would not consider himself a technician. He joined
Alamo PC Organization in July1995, after attending the big Windows 95 introduction
meeting. Once he started attending meetings, it wasn’t long until
he became more involved, started helping set up for the meetings and then
began reviewing software and writing articles for the PC Alamode
magazine. He initially became Vice-President for Software Reviews
in 1997 and the next year was elected to the Board of Directors. He continued
serving on the Board and remained the Product Review Coordinator until
he became the President for the year 2000-2001.
Larry and his wife, Marta are the proud parents of second-grader, Zoë,
(age 7) and kindergartener, Jackson (age 5). One of the reasons Larry
continues to be involved is his belief that computers are, or at least
can be, wonderful resources and outstanding learning tools. He is
committed to helping others use these “tools” to help them achieve the
goals they set for themselves.
Larry loves to play tennis and participates in other outdoor sports
(golf, softball, biking) on occasion. His primary sedentary hobbies
include computers and photography.
