November 2000 Bridgette Brazell by Ralph Cherry Alamo PC Organization: HOME > About Us > Awards > Volunteers Of The Month |
Bridgette especially relates to the very young and the very old, partly because they are the most vulnerable and the most in need of somebody to help them, and also because she loves to help people. She taught pre-school for 8 years (and loved it), helps in the nursery at church, and takes care of children in her home. She and Joe are currently looking into the adoption process so that they can have children of their own to take care of. On the other end of the age spectrum, she worked in a nursing home for about 3 years, and enjoyed that also. This is a caring person we're talking to here. We ought to clone her! There's a real need for more caring people in this world.
The wonderful world of computers was an unknown when she married Joe. Since then however, she has learned a lot about the machines, especially by attending the monthly meetings and attending SIGs at Alamo PC. And she has gotten involved in the Internet and in E-mail. She uses the Internet a lot, searching for information and conversation about cooking, childcare, all aspects of health, the adoption process, and other interests. Bridgette also leads a Bible study over the Internet with a group in South Africa, where there are few Christian resources. She also uses the computer for games and such in her childcare.
And then she discovered E-mail! Judging from what Bridgette told me, this has become a very important part of her life. She communicates a lot with family and friends, sends pictures to people, participates in some support groups, reads Christian e-zines, and has developed friendships with people all over the US. She's beginning to play with Qtalk which allows a person to actually talk over the Internet. She confessed to me that – once she discovered e-mail – “Joe's computer became my computer”. I asked Joe about that and he said he would estimate that 90% of the e-mail on their home computer is hers. Of course, he uses his computer at the office for a lot of his own e-mail correspondence.
Husband Joe has just finished a successful reign as President of Alamo
PC, but both he and Bridgette plan to stay highly involved in the organization,
helping out according to each one's interests and skills. Perhaps we should
we try to clone both of them!
